چکیده

CD44 is the canonical receptor for hyaluronic acid (HA) but is capable of binding other ligands such as osteopontin (OPN) [1-3]. CD44-HA interactions are important mediators of the inflammatory response associated with immune cell development, differentiation, and recruitment [4]. In addition to the standard CD44 receptor (CD44s), CD44 can undergo alternative splicing to form CD44 variants (CD44v) with an altered extracellular stem region which leads to additional interactions with surface bound receptor tyrosine kinases (RTKs) and signaling molecules on neighboring cells, leading to myriad physiologic processes [2]. CD44 also plays a role in pathological processes such as cancer. We have shown the importance interactions between CD44 and hyaluronic acid (HA) in driving growth of tumors that have lost the

Bioinformatics-Based Prediction of FUT8 as a Therapeutic Target in Estrogen Receptor-Positive Breast Cancer

Abstract Introduction: Estrogen receptor-positive (ER-positive) breast cancer is a subgroup of breast tumors that is more likely to respond to hormone therapy. ER-positive and ER- negative breast cancers tend to show different patterns of metastasis because of different signaling cascade and genes that are activated by estrogen response. Genetic factors can contribute to high rates of metastas...

Expression and significance of CD44 and p-AKT in pancreatic head cancer

BACKGROUND CD44 and phosphorylated AKT (p-AKT) is a potentially interesting prognostic marker and therapeutic target in pancreatic cancer. The expression of CD44 and p-AKT has been reported to correlate with poor prognosis of pancreatic cancer in most literatures. The purpose of this study is to investigate the roles of CD44 and p-AKT in pancreatic head cancer and their correlation with the pro...

Cancer stem-like cell marker CD44 promotes bone metastases by enhancing tumorigenicity, cell motility, and hyaluronan production.

CD44, an adhesion molecule that binds to the extracellular matrix, primarily to hyaluronan (HA), has been implicated in cancer cell migration, invasion, and metastasis. CD44 has also recently been recognized as a marker for stem cells of several types of cancer. However, the roles of CD44 in the development of bone metastasis are unclear. Here, we addressed this issue by using bone metastatic c...

Divergent roles of CD44 and carcinoembryonic antigen in colon cancer metastasis.

After separating from a primary tumor, metastasizing cells enter the circulatory system and interact with host cells before lodging in secondary organs. Previous studies have implicated the surface glycoproteins CD44 and carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) in adhesion, migration, and invasion, suggesting that they may influence metastatic progression. To elucidate the role of these multifunctional m...
